Behind the Scenes at “Our House”: A Quick Tour of Warsaw
May 29, 2025 | Venues | Share on
Ever wonder what gives a venue its soul? Introducing Our House, a new social series that steps inside the spaces where music lives, guided by the people who know them best. First up is Warsaw, a historic Greenpoint gem with stories in every corner (and pierogies on every plate).
Here are three things to know from our walk-through with longtime Warsaw manager Adam Romanowski:
1. The name is a nod to the neighborhood.
Warsaw was originally built in the 1930s, but got its name from the Polish-American community that made it a cultural anchor in the 70s, 80s and 90s.
2. Yes, there is a chandelier that’s the same as one on the Titanic.
Only three were ever made. One is in Warsaw, one was on the Titanic, and the third? A mystery.
3. Metal fans eat the most pierogies.
The venue’s legendary pierogi stand is run by local icon, Danuta, and her son, Daniel, who have been serving authentic Polish dumplings in the building for more than 35 years. And yes, metal shows draw the hungriest crowds.
